The Mission of the Department of Parks and Tourism is:

  • to provide optimum quality state park recreation facilities conveniently located and in sufficient quantity to meet the needs of all state citizens and visitors;

Benefits

Our Department offers an excellent benefit package including immediate accrual of annual and sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and a noncontributory retirement plan. Our Department pays the major portion of medical health insurance for full-time employees and offers several medical plans from which to choose. These plans range from an indemnity plan with a PPO option to HMO's.

Other benefits include maternity leave, court and jury duty leave, military leave and a catastrophic illness leave program as well as Family and Medical leave. Employees with our Department may choose to participate in a deferred compensation plan and various options for life insurance, accident insurance, cancer care and intensive care insurance. Employees are also able to participate in the Arkansas Cafeteria Plan which is a program designed to allow an employee to pay for group health and life insurance premiums, dependent day care and out-of-pocket medical care costs tax free. All employees of our Department are also covered under workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

Licensed Architect

Location: Planning & Development, Little Rock, AR
Salary: $36,945 - $48,837 plus benefits

Summary of Duties & Minimum Qualifications:
Pay Grade: 23

The Licensed Architect works under administrative direction and is responsible for developing preliminary and schematic drawings, cost estimates, and bid documents for park construction projects and for overseeing the completion of the project. This position will assist in providing oversight for all architectural projects, design consultant contracts, and will work closely with the Planning and Development engineering staff, park planners, and other regulatory agencies.

Purchasing Agent II

The purchasing agent is responsible for processing requisitions to procure goods and services for the department as needed via open market purchases, written quote bids, competitive sealed bids, state or departmental term contracts, or other methods as appropriate. This position develops and/or refines bid specifications, issues bid requests, analyzes bids, recommends contract awards, procures and administers contracts for assigned commodities and services, and processes purchasing transactions. The purchasing agent will also provide technical assistance to department personnel and vendors regarding state procurement laws and regulations, department policies and procedures, and the purchasing process. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to develop, interpret, and analyze specifications and contract terms for a wide variety of products and services and will also have a proven proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent communication skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills are also a must.

Park Technician II (Hobbs)

Location: Hobbs State Park–Conservation Area, Rogers, AR

Pay Grade: 14

This position assists in the maintenance and operation of all park facilities, grounds and equipment on this 12,000 acre park. Applicant is directly responsible for all maintenance needs associated with the interior and exterior operational systems of the Visitor Center and will perform skilled and non-skilled duties, including light carpentry, basic plumbing and electrical, cleaning, mowing, weed trimming, trash removal, vehicle maintenance, and other labor related maintenance activities. Other job duties include supervising, training, and participating in the work of regular and extra-help employees, community service workers, and volunteers involved in maintenance functions. This position also maintains equipment history records, inventory of supplies and materials, facility/system inspections, and other assigned record keeping responsibilities. Staff member may assist with park interpretive programming, exhibit maintenance, resource management, and emergency response. Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to traverse rough terrain and work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays. Applicants with computer skills in Microsoft Office are preferred.

Desk Clerk /Document Examiner I (Daisy)

This position is responsible for all duties related to the visitor center’s front desk operations. The Department of Parks & Tourism is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who will train and support our agency professionals from every corner of the state. Flexibility and team leader skills are a must.
